Transportation Department Invests in Small Shipyards

The federal government seeks to support the development of the small shipyard ecosystem in the U.S.

Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy announced that $35.1 million in funds from the Maritime Administration (MARAD) will be allocated to shipyard development. Forty-five small shipyards in 24 states, as well as the Virgin Islands, will be included in the investment. Funds will support large project development, such as training center equipment, offshore cranes, and welding machines.

“Small shipyards across America were once the backbone of our nation’s maritime industry,“ Secretary Duffy said. “The 300% increase in this program will fund cutting-edge equipment, major facility upgrades, and new training programs for the next generation of maritime workers.”

“America’s small shipyards drive our maritime economy and strengthen our national readiness,“ said MARAD Administrator Stephen Carmel. “These investments support the Maritime Action Plan and will strengthen America’s maritime future for years to come.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Duffy he oversees the investment into small shipyards across the U.S. and its territories.
  • For Administrator Carmel as he heads MARAD and seeks to support and develop the future of U.S. shipbuilding.
